The Poison Apple series is a hit, but if this book is any indication part of its appeal is that it's about contemporary kids doing genuinely bad things. This book has serious vandalism, truancy, theft, bullying, meaness, and more I've mercifully forgotten. The portrayl of adults is negative and implausible. A ghastly, pandering effort, made all the worse because its audience is eight to twelve year olds. Anna's new friend, Emma, is fearless, fashionable, and always up for a new adventure. But Emma is also a troublemaker. She sneaks off school grounds at lunch and "borrows" spray paint from the art classroom. Emma never seems to get caught, but Anna does. After all, the girls look so much alike-who could tell them apart? But when Emma's idea of fun takes a sinister turn, Anna starts to worry. Is her new BFF actually her evil twin?
