I AM SO FREAKING MAD RIGHT NOW!Okay, enough all caps. But seriously, I am mad. I was gifted this audiobook by SYNC during the summer. It isn't a story subject I would normally find interesting nor would I choose to spend my time reading/listening to, but it was free and I did find it interesting. The character conflicts are what kept me in this book. So, I should be happy, right? I mean, I got to see the characters grow, overcome their difficulties, and make it to the thing they'd both focused on for so long.But...THERE IS NO CONCLUSION! NO RESOLUTION! NO WINNER!I know, I said no more all caps, but I CAN'T BELIEVE I DON'T KNOW WHO WON! I was rooting for one boy over the other. I guess that's why the author decided not to give us the final outcome...he didn't want to leave us upset if our favorite didn't win. But now I'm upset because I don't know if he won...and I never will! For my sanity's sake, I will just assume I know the winner and the outcome of his future. Oh, and for those of you who wouldn't dream of picking up this book because it's about wrestlers, you should give it a chance. The terms for different holds (or whatever they call it) are mentioned (and I'm sure a wrestle could visualize the exact moves), but it doesn't interfere with the story being told. I will tell you, if you have no idea what a wrestler goes through for his sport (and I didn't), it will make you want your son/brother/boyfriend/best friend to NEVER become a wrestler. A sport requiring such an unhealthy lifestyle should not - for the sake of the boys playing it - be encouraged, in my opinion. No offense intended to any of you wrestlers out there. Kudos to you for being able to play such a competitive and hard sport.
I AM SO DISAPPOINTED.Okay, forget that. Disappointed doesn't even cover it. If I ever got the chance to meet the author, I'd say, "Really? You just had to end the book like that, didn't you? Leaving the reader hanging like that?" Although I'll admit that I'm not too big on reading sports (particularly wresting) stories, I thought this was a pretty good book. It shows the determination of an athlete and how competitive sports are, no matter what level you're at. You'll do anything to win the game, and the amount of concentration it takes is tremendous. And it's not just wrestling. I do track, and trust me, sprinting can be one of the most painful things you'll ever experience. However, there were some parts of the book where I just cringed. The sex scene was just unnecessary in my opinion, and all the side drama was getting annoying and monotonous to read. AND THE ENDING. The author's purposely messing with our minds or something, because the whole book was based on what was SUPPOSED to happen in the end. But it didn't happen. So, I'd say three stars just about covers what I think about Pinned. It's a great book with an excellent morale lesson, but some of the other side stories were not fun to read.
Do You like book Pinned (2006)?
good sports read. two high school wrestlers from very different homes and backgrounds, in different towns, will end up facing each other non the mat...no spoiler there, you know it's inevitable from the beginning of the book. its what happens between the beginning and when they meet that makes up the story - how they wrestle, not just on the mat, but in their own lives, and with all the things that life has a way of throwing at people. i didn't understnad all the wrestling jargon, but still enjoyed the story and trying to imagine what a maneuver might look like.

One of my favorite book. I liked how the author actually wrestled. I am a wrestler and I have to say I felt like I was on the mat during some parts. I could relate to what they had to do. It was almost like I was one of the characters. This story show how hard wrestlers work. Not only was it a story about The hard work Ivan Korske & Bobby Zane put in but their lives of the mat. If your a wrestler you would appreciate this book. I would read it. HOWEVER, the book left you hanging. Hanging so much, I almost fell off a cliff. BTW I am a slow reader but I finished this 300 some word book in 4 days...

I would like to say that I loved the book. Throughout the whole story Ivan's attitude is what I think sparked the story. His recklessness got to me a little bit, but being that good in wrestling? Who wouldn't want to be him. Bobby's side of the story I think was a little weak, but he grew over the course of the book. I'll even be a little scared if the most agressive person in the state dropped down to my weight class. They both went through the hardships of cutting weight, which is the hardest part of wrestling, but they got through it. Probably the biggest disappointment for me was the ending, both boys worked hard to see each other in the finals, its sad that a winner couldn't be decided.
