About book Pete The Cat And His Four Groovy Buttons (2012)

Litwin, Eric. Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons. HarperCollins, 2012.Counting ALA Notable Children's Book for Younger Readers (2013)Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor (2013) This book is ideal for using visuals while teaching numbers. It's the perfect mixture of fun and informational. I will use this in my classroom now to show my students the visual of numbers and the repetition throughout the book. The illustrations are very cool yet thrown together at the same time. They are not very precise which fit Pete's personality perfectly. The story starts off with a cat named Pete. He is wearing a button down shirt with four buttons. He keeps losing buttons, until he has none. But he does not get sad about it. He still keeps singing even when he has lost a button.A theme in this story is that through life you will lost things, but it is okay, you should not get upset about it.This story lends itself to teach children about numbers and colors.
