Very unlike Peter James's usual style: if you're expecting something akin to the DS Grace series, then you'll be disappointed - but, if you're willing to be taken away from your usual genre & have even a passing interest in genetic engineering & the moral dilemmas surrounding it, then this is a cracking good read with plenty of suspense. Deducting a star for the fact that the book did let itself down at the point on the island, where I began to wonder if, rather than crime fiction, it should actually be categorised as science fiction - and rather silly sci-fi at that! This is one of those mindfuck kind of books where you finish and you're like "The fuck did I just read?!"Anyway. First half sucked ass and moved along at a snail pace, the second half, however, was quite intriguing and nice. Sadly, it couldn't make up for the boring 350 pages before that, so I don't know... it kind of fell through for me. Still, definitely better than the last book we had to read for English.
