About book Penguin And Pinecone. By Salina Yoon (2012)
I don't frequently review children's books, or board books, but this board book is a must-read if you have small children. It has a coherent and endearing story to it and cute illustrations. In this book, Penguin meets a pinecone who is cold, so he knits him a scarf. They become friends, but then Penguin realizes that where he lives is too cold for the Pinecone. He takes Pinecone to a forest and leaves him there, and goes back home. Later, he misses Pinecone and wonders if he grew big like he did. He traveled to find Pinecone and yes, Pinecone had grown into a nice big tree. Penguin and Pinecone play together, but Penguin has to leave again. Pinecone is sad his friend has to leave him for a colder climate, but the message of the story is that they can be friends and in each other's hearts, even far apart, because they love each other. I found this book to be such a sweet story. Penguin picks up a Pinecone and it quickly becomes his friend. They do everything together however Penguin soon discovers that Pinecone belongs in a place where it is warmer, so that Pinecone can grow. Penguin takes Pinecone to the forest and leaves it there even though Penguin is sad. Penguin returns one day to find that Pinecone has grown into a beautiful, large pine tree. A whimsical story about friendship and love.
