About book Pastrix: The Cranky, Beautiful Faith Of A Sinner & Saint (2013)
I read about her in More magazine, Dec. 2014. What appeals is that she's a female pastor, and her past is so troubled. Plus she says she is naturally an "angry person," and lifts weights several times a week. "My first reaction to almost everything is 'Fuck you,'" she says. "I almost never stay there, but I start there. God moves me quickly from that to something more gracious." That really appeals to me. I'm not religious by any means, but I'm not opposed to it's teachings. Do good in this world for others, be humble, think positive, etc.This book really dives into Nadia's interpretations of The Bible and it makes a lot of sense from the general humanistic side of it. I enjoyed how she challenged certain passages from the scripture and changed her sermons based off what she thought was appropriate, such as the 9/11 and forgiveness chapter. By having a church of such unorthodox members, Nadia is able to draw some well thought out meaning from the holy book. If you have any interest in faith at all and what it means in the 21st century, this book is an unsung patron.
