Other Words for Love chronicles about four years in the life of a girl named Ari, and over that time she faced struggles and overcame them, made mistakes, met new people and lost old friends...she fell in love and lost it all...A lot of interesting, realistic things happened in this story and if you enjoy frustrating teenage girl characters who redeem themselves at the very end, then you would probably like this. There were a ton of things that bothered me about Ari and her family and the people around her (one being that a certain somebody was such a raging...witch) but some of it had to do with my personal views and the fact that characters are sometimes SUPPOSED TO make you mad. I think that overall, the story was good, because it was real. The characters, the way they interacted, and the problems they faced in life were all so real and plausible. Ari represents so many teenage girls in what she hopes for, what she thinks, how she handles things, and I think that was really great. However, I'd probably never consider picking it up again, because it just didn't do THAT MUCH for me. I thought the story line was amazing! The story of the first love hasn't been told any better. I can relate definitely! I thought the descriptions put a very vivid picture in my head of the main character's, Ari's, surroundings. I think the book as a whole was a beautifully written masterpiece. Though beautiful in everything else, I didn't like how she shut herself off after the breakup. I feel in today's world, we need more people like Katniss Everdeen, to Bella Swan. I loved the main character because we all can relate in one way or another, but the actions after her breakup from Blake just irked me. I highly recommend to any girl between 15-17, it's a story about growing up, and growing out of what our parents' want for us. It's a book that shows we can stand on our own as long as we know the consequences.
