About book Out Of Oz (2011)

The best of the series! (after Wicked) This book was well worth plodding through Son of a Witch and A Lion Among Men. I think Maguire did a great job wrapping up the series with this last book. It was way more concise, witty, and satisfying than the middle two books. He did, however, keep a good deal of mystery intact, which I personally liked. Also: Glinda is hilarious! I was so glad to read a sizable chunk of the book from her perspective. The main character Rain (Elphaba's granddaughter) was so relatable to me. (I think she might be my spirit animal.) I recommend reading the whole series (well, OF COURSE Wicked) if only to be able to understand and fully appreciate Out of Oz. Incredible work, Gregory Maguire! It also doesn't hurt that I have a beautiful signed hardcover edition either... :) I had such high hopes for this book especially after the disappointment that the 3rd book had given me. I was let down, terribly. The first half of the book was nonsense that I couldn't care less about and the second half was just enough story to get my attention but not to hold it. I wanted to put this book down every time I picked it up, the only thing keeping me going was the promise of an awesome ending. I could have skipped this book. Just like I could have skipped the last one. If you are new to the series, you only need to read the first two books. Unless you like putting yourself into a reading coma from boredom. The only reason I finished the series was because I felt I had an obligation to and the fact that the first two books were so good!! The only character I cared about was Rain. The possible love triangle between Liir, Trism, and Candle was old news and their struggles were so forced that by the time they decided to split up I didn't even care anymore about their story. Elphaba lives? Right? Who knows. Why is Dorothy back? She was annoying as ever and her character would not have been missed.Glinda was promising at the beginning but then she was cut out until the last 20 pages. I actually would not have minded her being a main role in this story. I was so glad when the clock finally bit the dust. I am so sick of hearing about it. The concept was cool in the first two but became quickly overused.I guess I am happy that my series looks complete on my bookshelf? Silver lining.

Do You like book Out Of Oz (2011)?

Finally got it finished...I didn't like it as much as Wicked at all! Just seemed to drag on and on!

I so appreciate that Maguire doesn't spoon feed the reader. And that he doesn't put a bow on it.

Once again, it was hard to like Rain or her choices, but so easy to get sucked into her story.

Wicked is still my favorite. This was good but could have been about 150 pages shorter.

This book was frustrating...because of how it ended.
