About book Out Of My League: A Rookie's Survival In The Bigs (2012)
Being an avid sports fan and playing baseball for the majority of my childhood, I was curious to read a book like this about what the life of a minor leaguer truly is like. Honestly, I had never heard of Dirk Hayhurst before but it was an enjoyable read to learn what his life was like being a minor league relief pitcher who actually did get a chance at the Big Show for a bit.I enjoyed how he applied his experiences in baseball to his personal life as well and how it helped round him out as a person. It was a bit depressing to read about how life in the big leagues really didn't live up to the hype simply because the author couldn't handle the pressure of it.All in all, this is a very good read for someone who wants to know what minor league life is like for someone who isn't considered a prospect who actually does make it for a cup of coffee. I loved The Bullpen Gospels, but in Out of My League Dirk gets a little tiresome. It was interesting getting a closer look at his family life. If half of what he says is true, it's better than fiction. The problem is the whole thing is dragged down by Dirk's prissy attitude. In fact somewhere along the way I began to think of him as "Prissy Hayhurst." This impression was cemented when he had the crisis of conscience over whether or not to tell his fiancée that the barbarians he was bunking with had smuggled in some porn. Men locked away from women for weeks on end watching porn? Why I have never! Get over yourself Prissy. Less of a look at baseball and more of a look at Dirk waffling about his place in life.

Pretty much the exact same book as the Bullpen Diaries, but that doesn't mean it wasn't good!
