Best manga I've read in a long time! Oresama teacher is truly a laugh-out-loud series. From experience, I would advise anyone reading this to lock yourself away from others so they wont have to endure you're inexplicable bursts of laughter-- it's really that funny! From the beginning, Oresama Teacher had me hooked. I thought the first book was great, but it honestly gets better as it progresses.Mafuyu is a hardcore delinquent who has to switch schools due to the trouble she stirred up at her previous school (although I must say, Japan's ideas of delinquents are somewhat mild compared to mine...) Truly, Mafuyu just enjoys fighting, other than that I can't say she strikes me as much of a delinquent. She has a heart of gold and truly only wants to make friends. Her character is so hilariously adorable and loveable. That's what is so great about this series-- the characters! Takaomi is not at all your ordinary male lead. He has an amazingly dark sense of humor which will crack you up, not to mention he's a total pervert and is shameless. However, I can't help but adore him. I find it funny that the teacher is almost more of a delinquent than any of the students, honestly, to understand you just have to read it!I feel like this manga is advertised as a shojo (girl) manga, but it's really something of a mixture between shojo and shounen(boy). There's a lot of fighting sequences and for the most part any romance is very subtle. I think anyone with a sense of humor will enjoy this manga. All I can say is READ IT!!! What do you get when you gender switch the main character in a shounen manga about yankees, school and fighting? Oresama Teacher, of course.Because that's exactly what this manga is: a story about friendship, struggle and victory, but with a female main character that kinda wish she was in a regular shoujo story and several extremely good looking allies.Still, this is definitely not a harem manga, as it isn't a gender-bending manga, even if there's quite a bit of crossdressing going on. It's a story about what is means to be female (or male) and how society will overlook a person's obvious characteristics on its rush to fit her/him in the "proper" gender stereotype. But what I love best about this manga is the way the manga-ka can approach this complex gender discussion and still keep things light and absolutely hilarious. Also: lot's of fighting and deep relationships. Those things always get a gold star from me.On a final note, if you read this, do avoid thinking about Takaomi's relationship to his students. If it makes you feel better, there's a (crazy) reason for everything, and the writer slowly gets the focus away from him and into the characters, eventually hanging a lampshade on the whole weirdness. So, read this. It's one of those series that start slow and grow beautifully as it gets it's cast, I promise.
