I found this to be a very good biography. I discovered a lot of different facets to Oprah Winfrey, that has significantly altered my opinion of her. I can't say that I like her as much as I did before I read her book. Underneath the generous, understanding, good-will ambassador, lies a power-hungry and money hungry media magnate!! Apparently she has lied about her childhood, stating that she never had any new clothes, no toys, etc., which you discover (by her family) that it wasn't like that at all. She plays the poor little syndrome quite well to the detriment of her relatives. I have also found her to be the type of person that makes everything about her all the time. This is just my opinion, others may differ. Two stars is a bit of a grumpypants rating, which may be the result of listening to the audiobook version. It was read by the author and while the general tone of the book probably wasn't the snarkiest in the history of unauthorized biographies, the frequent judgypants tones of voice and barely-hidden vitriolic undertones really rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe Oprah drowned Ms. Kelly's kittens or something, but between her not-really-suited-for-audio voice (think Diane Rhem-like throat issues, but bitchier) and her obvious disrespect for the subject, finishing this was more an exercise in stubborness than a pleasant distraction.I would not recommend this to folks unless they tend to watch daytime tv, or read with glee the kinds of magazines you find in grocery store checkout lines.
Do You like book Oprah (2010)?
I did not like this book at all. I found it very petty and small minded.
