About book One-Way Bridge (Mattagash #4) (2013)

I have read 5 of Cathie Pelletier's books so I was really looking forward to another, but I have to admit I was disappointed with this one. Also, a friend that grew up in the County was horrified with the portrayal of the people of Aroostook. I did not find any of the characters compelling with the exception of the Vietnam Vet at the very end of the book. Pelletier's trilogy of Mattagash was a much more complete and satisfying read. This was a sweet little story of small town residents that I enjoyed reading. The character development started slowly with the humorous collection of characters only given surface level descriptions of their actions and thoughts. The interaction between residents of the town was funny and easy to enjoy, but was all plot driven. It was not until midway through the book that depth was added to the characters and the earlier and interactions took on greater meaning. This made the first half of the book a little slow, but since the entire story is a quick read, it was enjoyable overall.

Slow to start, but it did eventually become interesting. Lots of characters to keep track of.
