Tierney is engaged to the wrong man, and her brother sends her an interesting bridal shower gift to further sway her to sever the engagement; One Classic Latin Lover! He's just like the one she's pined for from all the old romantic musicals she adores. This is the story of Tierney and Rome, who have sizzling chemistry! It was fun to see their relationship progress and their flirting was totally fun. I get why people love MLM's books, they're fun, fast and shallow (in a nice I-don't-have-to-think-just-be-entertained way). While I enjoyed this story, there were a few things that really irked. It was hard to tell when this was supposed to be set. Let's start with the verbiage! Who still says: "dude" "man" "bro"? The author uses a lot of "like-s", which seemed like such simplistic writing. Who has a cell that receives pictures but doesn't have a camera, so they're still carting both around? What 20-something girl irons to calm herself down and loves both really old musicals and Milli Vanilli? It was a hard combo for me to find believable. Add a creepy guy (and seriously, what wife wouldn't have a clue that her husband was a creeper?!) and some swear words, and it wasn't my favorite. Though I totally get the allure of the book! For sure an "It's me, not you" - on this book. I have an insane love for Marcia McClure's books (like, the day I discovered Visions of Ransom Lake was one of the best days of my life because it introduced me to this treasure trove of Marcia romances) so I hate giving one of them three stars. However, her contemporary romances just aren't for me. I mean, this is the woman that brought us Crimson Frost, Shackles of Honor, and the Highwayman of Tanglewood! Those are swoony, sweet romance at its absolute very best. The cheese works in the historical settings, but it never translates well to contemporary times for me.I will forever love Marcia's books and happily read anything she writes, but I'm hoping for more historical novels and less modern-day cheese.
Do You like book One Classic Latin Lover, Please (2013)?
Such a cute story premise and I love the way Marcia's heroines are always so humble an likeable.
