About book Off To Be The Wizard (2014)

Solid book that doesn't take itself to seriously. It was in the same general vein as "Ready, Player One," and successfully blended light scifi and fantasy elements with modern humor. It was a little predictable in places but in some ways I feel like this may have been intentionally for a bigger payoff later. Just remember don't make the obvious joke. Worth reading and good enough to get me to put the second book in the series on my "To Read list." Light and fun blend of fantasy and contemporary nerd culture. Reminiscent of Robert Asprin's "Myth" series for its Fantasy Lite vibe, and of Ready Player One for its willingness to date itself with copious cultural references. I was put off only by the villain's being an obvious and misguided allusion to Steve Jobs. Recommended for geeks with a sense of humor who could use a quick diversion from massive and grim mainstream fantasy. Looking forward to the next two.

Do You like book Off To Be The Wizard (2014)?

So honestly for a gamer like me, this one was fun. You travel into a world where the main character finds a piece of code that allows him to manipulate the world around us. So naturally where do you go? Medieval England of course, to be a wizard. Instead of wowing people with his spectacle, he ends up meeting a cast of characters that show him what the word wizard really means. Solid story, really humorous, great / memorable characters. Overall a good nerdy read.
