So inspiring and thought provoking. Shares some highlights if her early years and how she was inspired to get into politics by then First Lady Hilary Clinton. She then talks about the issues she covered in the house & then the Senate. She talks about different issues such as learning how to blend work and family, being a working mother, weight, being kind and why she serves. It's a call to action for women and something akin to Lean In with a more political bent. And I love how she talks about ways to be involved in the political process. I love how she defines feminism on page 75. I was almost completely unfamiliar with Kirsten Gillibrand before seeing this book on the shelf at the library. I have to say, she won herself a new supporter. Here is a woman who truly lives her values. From fighting for Congressional funding for the medical care of 9/11 responders, to her work on the ground after Hurricane Sandy, working to get Don't Ask Don't Tell repealed, supporting other women who are currently serving or running for political office, making the Senate friendlier to working mothers in even small ways, combating sexual assault in the military, and a million other things in between, her focus is entirely on the things that matter and are always people-centric. She's not afraid to show that she has the same concerns as nearly every other woman, that she suffers from being over-scheduled, under-rested and sometimes overwhelmed to the point of tears. She talks about being a good mother and wife while working to meet the needs of her constituents and is unabashedly pro-girl and pro-woman. This book would be a great gift to young women in junior high or high school to inspire them and show them what a positive role model really looks like.
