About book Of Silver And Beasts (2013)

** an eARC was provided by author in exchange of an honest review**Have you ever wondered what a world ruled by women would look like? Everything would be pink and flowery, we would have unicorns as our pets and hot men waiting on our every whim. At least that's how I imagined it. Of Silver and Beasts is about a world where women are the rulers, but there are no flying unicorns, no pink and no flowery things.Kaliope is the head of the Nactue Guard, sworn to protect her empress, but when a neighboring country is attacked she has to protect their last heir, Prince Caben. When they are captured and brought to the underworld, Kaliope has to fight for both their lives and come up with a plan to save her empress' life as well.I loved, loved, loved this book. I don't think I breathed at all while reading it. It's dark, action packed and fast-paced, never giving me the chance to take a deep breath before I'm thrust once more into another problem. I loved both Kaliope and Caben. They are so much alike, both protective, both smart and both stubborn. Kaliope is not a big fan of men, so being assigned to protect Caben is a challenge for her. He challenges her, and they argue and never get along. Both are from different worlds where women have different roles in the community. In Cabens country, women are the ones being protected, while in Kaliopes women are the protectors. There where times in this book when I wanted to hit Kaliope for not understanding Cabens actions and judging him. But when they finally got along, ohmygod it was smoldering hot and absolutely swoon-worthy. Of Silver and Beasts is a must-read, it will have you sitting at the edge of your seat, biting your nails and holding your breath and never stopping reading. I can't wait for the next book in the series, the ending of Of Silver and Beasts had me close to tears and I'm dying to find out what's to come next. *I'd like to thank the author for giving me an early copy of this book, in exchange for my honest review.* There's so much to say about this book. From the mythology, to the plot, to the characters, it was all incredible. I love Trisha Wolfe's imagination so much. The fact that she was able to create her own fantasy world is amazing, but she went a step further. She invented a completely original mythology, and I think that that's just incredible. Not only was it unique, but it was also a huge part of this story. It wasn't just details to expand the world, it's the basis of this series, and that's just ridiculously awesome. The characters in this story were very complex. Kal was very guilty about things she had done in the past, so she thought that she had to save everyone. Usually, I'd find that very annoying in a main character, but it wasn't in this case. I found it completely understandable, and I actually loved her for it. Also, she had some misconceptions about men, since she came from a queendom where women were highly respected. I loved watching those beliefs be changed over the course of this story. Caben was great. When he was introduced into the story, I wasn't sure what to think of him at first. I appreciated the fact that he wanted to get back to his kingdom, and I found that really honorable. However, there was so much more to him than his honor. He was very kind and thoughtful. I loved how amazing he was for Kal. He made her see that men weren't always like she thought, and she started to change some of her ways of thinking because of him. He also started changing some of his views on women, and I loved that they helped each other for the better. Also, he made Kal start to appreciate the need for humor, and I was so happy when she started making funny comments, or going along with his jokes. Caben's backstory was really interesting too, and I loved learning about him. He was a very sympathetic and interesting character, and he was great for Kal. Then, there's the plot of this book. It was so interesting, and it made me fly through this book in one sitting. It started out a book about war and Kal protecting her Empress. Then, it changed and became something totally different. It turned into a wonderfully intense story with a competition to the death, and a great story about acceptance and love. Then, it completely changed once we learned the reason behind the fighting competition, and the author's great mythology became the central piece to this whole series. I absolutely loved it. Therefore, I most definitely loved this book. From the fantastic world, original mythology, and great characters, I thought it was all fabulous. There were also some wonderful messages hidden in this book about men and women and equality and respect between them, as well as accepting yourself for who you are. The story was never dull, and I couldn't put it down. I'm definitely a fan of this author, and the next book in this series can't come fast enough, as far as I'm concerned.
