There was enough unanswered questions in this book that made me want to continue. However, I do recall scanning a few pages towards the middle. The unanswered questions that were introduced in the beginning were stretched out for so long.There is also no moral to the story if that is what's most important to you. I didn't close the book and feel "enlightened" as most good books do. But I did close that book and felt peace. Peace because I felt so much frustration for Meridia (and towards the book itself) as well as many other emotions.All the strange, terrible, and wonderful encounters Meridia experiences relate to eachother in the end. You may find that the character you admire most will similarly have a dark, internal struggle or experience with the character you hate most. Because of this, I felt SOME sympathy for the crazy villain...Meridia grew up invisible and lonely in a dark home. However, she awakens mental and emotional strength nobody knew she possessed. I felt anger when she sucked it up and I felt sorrow when she was grieving with a straight face. She is a unique and remarkably brave woman.Meridia's character makes this story worthwhile. an unusual, magical and enchanting tale. unexpected twists paired with suspense,sadness,joy and the epic battle between good and evil. Packed with surprises throughout, I simply couldnt put it down. I cant wait to get my hands on something else from Mr. Setiawan.....what a talent he has for bringing so much vibrance to the characters and the settings he penned among these pages. a very refreshingly different and entertaining read!
