About book O Pai Da Chuva (2011)

I liked EUPHORIA by Lily King and decided to read Father of The Rain. It's a story about Daley who has a dysfunctional relationship with her father. I liked Daley when the story began but I have to admit that she annoyed me in Part 2 of the story when she decides to return to live with her father to help him battle his alcoholism. It was unrealistic for Daley to give up a professorship and a lover for a father that she had very little contact with for many years. I think the story might have been better if Daley's mother had been more developed. The reader is left wondering what her mother was really like. I found the story to be a little unbelievable but I have to say that it kept my interest and stirred some emotions. Lily King is simply an incredible author! When I finish her books I feel like I've spent an extended period of time in a particular pocket of the world, learning about the culture and coming to love the characters like they're people I know in my own life. At the end of Euphoria and now, again, at the end of Father of the Rain (both of which I read in mostly one day), I suddenly realize I'm back in the real world and I genuinely miss the world I've left. Ms. King's writing is so vivid the readjustment is actually jarring! Her character development, which has always been the most important part of a novel for me, is profound and I can't wait to read another story by this amazing author. I'm so thrilled to have found her books.
