About book North Of Need (2011)

Megan Snow is heart broken. Its the 2nd anniversary of her husbands death & the Christmas season. She returns to their winter cottage because she still doesnt feel ready to pretend to be OK with her family during the holidays. Little does she know that her late husband has petitioned the gods for help for her to move on & find happiness. Boreas, God of the Winter winds sends his son Owen Winters to help her & ultimately help himself. Wrongs eons ago but his fiancee, he's ignored eveything/everyone but his job; to help Megan he must become corporal again & if they find love...he can stay, if not he returns to wind. A paranormal romance novel more dull than even the usual fast food stuff in the genre.Megan has been a widow for two years. Her husband went out to get her some eggnog and died in a car accident. She spent the next 2 years wallowing in misery.Owen is a snow god who responds to the plea from her husbands dead spirit to make her happy again. He uses a snowman she made and cried on to form a human body and appears collapsed on her porch. From there love obviously blooms...The biggest flaw in North of Need is a flaw most if not all paranormal romance novels are plagued by. We are presented with very little if any reason for Owen to fall in love with Megan. Owen's developing attraction for and love of Megan is very poorly described. The feelings manifest spontaneously, without any particular event or action causing them. He falls in love with her because he just does. He finds her to be a wonderful person because he just does. He wants to give up immortality for her because he just does. The author does a horrible job of writing in the male side of this romance. On the other hand Megan is presented with plenty of reason to love Owen. He is kind, supportive, funny, and eager to please. He also has a model's body, a big dick, and special magic powers. He can even turn snow into money. He never says anything mean. He's always understanding. They never have a fight. He never even disagrees with her over anything throughout the whole book. Of course she falls for him. He's a walking dream. On the other hand Megan is a shambling wreck of a human being. For the love of god she spends the first chapter of the book building a snowman family and then crying on them. She doesn't need to be alone in a cabin in the woods she needs to be in a psychiatric facility. Owen's reasons for wanting her are flimsy and ridiculous. This massive flaw undermines the whole book and breaks immersion.Other than the absurdity of the relationship itself, the book also happens to be dull. Nothing much happens throughout. Its the story of how Owen smiles and dazzles his way into a ridiculously reluctant Megan's bed, wherein he plows her until she loves him.The underlying suspense mechanic in the book is totally negated in the end. For the whole book we are told Owen only had four days to make Megan admit she loves him. Four days and then it will be too late. We are led to believe that at the end of those four days he will disappear and never be able to return and it will all be too late. But then in the end of the book not only does he "die" but he returns, totally punching a hole in the entire suspense generating situation. While the writing quality is fine, the book itself is uninteresting. The romance is flimsy, the sex scenes are generic, and the plot is swiss cheese. Do not recommend.
