About book No, They Can't: Why Government Fails-But Individuals Succeed (2012)
This book has literally changed my life. I am 48 soon to be 49 and all my life I have voted republican because I was fearful of wasting my vote. Best quote of the book is; I am a libertarian in part because I see the false choice offered by both political left and right; government control of the economy-or government control of our personal lives. This book has put resolve into my heart to waste the rest of my votes, if for no other reason than to explain it is in response to the false choice the two party system offers.As a sportsmen and one who loves the outdoors, his chapter on environmentalism is one of the best I have ever read about solutions that truly work. To sum up on how to save the environment and animals he makes an airtight case for tying them the economic well being of free individuals.As an American for our future, please read: NO THEY CAN'T WHY GOVERNMENT FAILS BUT INDIVIDUALS SUCCEED. John Stossel. Stossel does this "humble-bragging" thing quite a bit, and it can get kind of annoying, but honestly I don't mind it that much. I disagree with a lot of what he's saying, but I can totally see the appeal of libertarianism after reading both him and Friedman. It's definitely an interesting position, and a good alternative to neo-liberalism and modern religious-right conservatism. So let's just call this a draw, Stossel. I don't like you, and you don't like me, but let's agree to disagree. You seem to be willing to do that.The book is good as an introduction to libertarianism. Very easy to read, no strings attached. I might encourage you to check his sources, but I trust most of what he says at face value.
