About book Nine Lives Last Forever (2010)

I want to start off by saying I think this author is certainly memorable, particularly because of how she writes her books. The timeline is not sequential, and it can be disconcerting when she does that. I was intrigued however by the story, and have to agree with another reviewer that it was one of the stranger mysteries I've read. I enjoy the details (including the history) she goes into. So far after reading both How to Wash a Cat and Nine Lives Last Forever I can see her stories are more mystery/story driven which in some ways is a good thing, but I want to see more character development - particularly the main character who I still can't really get a good grasp on (probably because she doesn't come off as a particularly strong or interesting character). I'm more interested in the other recurring characters (including the cats) then the female lead. I will continue reading this series if only to see what happens with Frank Napis (or whatever his real name is) and the others. I had some giggles, and it wasn't a bad read, but it wasn't particularly stand out either. 2.5 stars. What a fun read! Rebecca M. Hale takes Our Heroine deeper into her new career and lifestyle as owner of her Uncle Oscar's antiques shop. She gets wrapped up in another mystery that her deceased (maybe?) Uncle and his cronies had begun investigating years ago. Like all things Oscar, it involves the California Gold Rush and its aftermath as well as more recent City politics, locales, earthquakes, and social tremors. Like all things related to Our Heroine, she can't hope to get to the bottom of any mystery without her two feline Watsons, named Isabella and Rupert. Some strange characters as well as the rib-tickling influence of Mark Twain and his jumping frog add spice to the mystery. Curl up with your cat or borrow one to enjoy this all the more.
