3.5 starsI applaud Michael Connelly for trying something new in this book. He let his main character, Harry, leave his comfortable life in LA to head over to Hong Kong in order to rescue his kidnapped daughter. As usual, his books are fast paced and this was no exception. I actually like pinging through his books, especially when I have a lot on my mind. What I didn't like in this book was his whiny ex-wife, who was supposed to be tough since she had FBI agent training and all. Ugh. I don't like the contradiction there. Such polar opposites. And I also didn't care for his bratty self absorbed daughter. The bratty part, I can actually deal with. It was the 'beyond bratty' self absorbed part that I struggled with. I can't give specifics because I don't want to give away any part of this book. Connelly's series of mystery/thrillers featuring LAPD Detective Bosch, one of his more detailed and interesting characters, is possibly his best series yet. Just when you think the story is over, Connelly introduces yet another exciting facet to the story, culminating in an excellent book with plenty of action and character development. The combination makes for one of Connelly's best reads yet.The exotic combination of settings serves to add to the intrigue. This was definitely one of my favorites by Connelly, and kept me riveted to the book. I listened to this one in just one (long) day.Highly recommended for those seeking a high-octane adventure.Do yourself a favor and make sure you have time to finish it in one sitting!
