#13 in the Harry Bosch series (it is #15, as listed on Goodreads, only if you include the two novels featuring lawyer Mickey Haller. In this entry, Harry leaves the comfortable confines of L.A. for the dangerous precincts of Hong Kong.Harry Bosch investigates the murder of a Chinese liquor store owner. Clues lead to Chang, a triad bagman. Harry is warned off and then gets an email video clip showing the abduction of his daughter, living with her mother in Hong Kong. Harry flies to Hong Kong to find Maddie, a process that costs the life of Eleanor Wish, his ex-wife. Harry is sure there is an info leak. As a reader, I always wonder if authors get bored writing about the same characters over & over. This book answered that question with a resounding YES. I got the strong feeling that Mr. Connelly wanted to go to Hong Kong, but write off the trip on his taxes by writing a book, so he slapped together a rough draft, his lazy editor saw dollar signs & this book is the result. The main character of Harry Bosch is turned into a one-dimensional, selfish jerk & the Asian characters are flat as can be. Then there is the plot, which is so beyond belief ridiculous, that I got a headaches from rolling my eyes as I read this stinker.
Do You like book Nine Dragons (2009)?
A good detective story, with the detective in question being Harry Bosch. Harry is a stubborn, smart, old school police detective who solves crimes with good solid detective work. This story (the 15th in the series) revolves around the kidnapping of Harry's daughter as he is solving the murder of the Chinese owner of a liquor store which Harry sometimes frequents. An unpredictable, believable plot with lots of twists and turns made this book a pleasure to read.

i am not a happy camper after reading this book. I am a Michael Connelly fan but this book was pretty average for a mystery writer and much below average for Harry bosch. We already have a gun welding crime fighter in the books of Ian Fleming, Bosch should not try to take his place.Never read this if this your first Harrt Bosch, you might just not read another book of his, in which case you are missing out on a lot of good writing.
