This was a freebie on Amazon and I have read the first few of the author's midnight breed series, so I thought I'd give it a whirl. Honestly, the content was fine. I like the post-apocalyptic setting and the idea that supernatural breeds emerge after the apocalypse. My only issue is that of pacing and how it shows up in the e-reader format. Apparently, over half of the book is a "preview" of the first midnight breeds novel. So, when the hero and heroine start off on opposing sides in a brewing war, but were suddenly declaring their love and I was only 30% into the book, I was a bit confused. It is because the entire story is only about half of the content. So...that is something to keep in mind. This could have actually been a full book and a good one at that.This way (as it is a short story) it is not convincing and just cramped.Or more precisely, it starts off really slow, with how they meet and then speeds up incredibly and BOOM they are in love and decide to spend the rest of their lives together and reclaim a kingdom and so on.Not to mention that at the beginning the MC hates the strange and then just forgets about that.But it could have been a grate book.Maybe still worth to try one of the authors books.
