After reading Taylor Jenkins Reid's other book, "After I do", I dreaded reading this one because I didn't want to spoil my smile. This book had "DEPRESSING" written all over it. BUT...the author takes a terribly tragic situation and turns it into a learning experience for every character in the book. It is beautifully written. I cried my eyes out and couldn't put it down! If you take anything from this book, take the realization that love and life are precious...take nothing you have for granted. I really liked this book despite the depressing subject matter. I was fascinated by how the characters reacted to the tragedy central to the story and with the exception of Elsie's parents (who were very minor characters)everyone was written in a realistic fashion. I loved how the book skipped back and forth between the before and after of the tragic event. I believe that this is a first novel--I will definitely read her next book.
