I justehI didn't mind this book but there were some things about it that threw me off.I found it hard to identify with Jane; as a narrator she seemed, well, bland. The whole incident with Scott and his sudden stalkerish tendencies seemed very... forced, thrown in there to a) function as a red herring and b) get this up-until-now perfectly nice and friendly and attractive guy out of the way to allow Jane to end up with Pete with no residual feelings for anyone else. Also, what happened to Scott afterwards? He admits to stalking her, spying on her, waiting outside her house, creeping on her dates, there is CLEARLY a problem here but once it's established that he didn't kill Jane he's gone from the book just like that.And down to the real murderer, Langley. I found that her motivation for killing Jane was pretty unclear. She seemed psychopathic but the other two major crimes she committed were motivated by money - her grandfather wouldn't let her have her way, she pushed him down the stairs. She wanted to live with her billionaire grandparents, she set fire to her trailer with her mom still inside it. She tried to kill Jane... because she found Jane annoying?The subplot with Jane and Bonnie and the implied mystery surrounding Bonnie's death really would have added to the story if they had been explored more.I liked elements of this book but overall there were things that just threw me off so, yeah, two stars, can't see myself rereading it. Ok, this book kept me at the edge of my seat and constantly guessing. However, I have a few major complaints. SPOILERS!!!! Okay, so right off the bat we are introduced to Jane, who makes it clear she is popular. So I liked this, particularly because the majority of books I read have a character who is an outsider or "never ran with the popular crowd." Where there is popularity, there is a perfect boyfriend? Right? Jane keeps playing off how her boyfriend is perfect; yes, because a guy who expects you to blow off all family plans and wants to break up when you cancelled a date because your best friend is having emotional problems is a perfect guy, right? Another thing. Scott. Okay, so we have this character Scott, who is one of janes friends, who becomes a love interest. BAM!! All of the sudden we see a creeper who digs through the trash for a straw as a souvenir. His complete personality changed in a matter of a page turn. I get that this was to throw the reader off guard, but you can't just make a complete character change like that.Langley. My biggest complaint. The killer, who, got turned on killer mode because Jane wet the shoes she borrowed. Not to mention Langley was her best friend. Langley was the character whom I considered but decided not to have as a suspect. But not in the whole good plot twist. Again, we see a complete character change, who wants to kill Jane because she was "making friends with the wrong people," wetting her shoes she borrowed from Langley, and for not telling anyone that janes old best friend might not have committed suicide. Which, is ridiculous, considering Langley killed her mom by setting their trailer on fire and pushed her grandfather down the stairs because he wouldn't buy her a new car. Her character change was unexpected, I admit, but outrageous. All in all, not a bad book, and did keep me guessing.
