About book Myši (2011)

Written by Gordon Reece, Mice is an electrifying psychological taut thriller exploring the lives of Shelly and her mother, Elizabeth. The duo retreat to a peaceful life in the countryside to escape their physical and mental scars from their previous lives of intense torment and bullying. When an unwelcome guest disturbs their peace, something inside Shelly snaps and what happens from then on shatters all assumptions as to what the two are truly capable of. If you are like me and love a true jam-packed 'nail-biter' this is the one for you. Reece weaves the major theme of bullying into an edge-of-your-seat story involving fear, violence, family loyalty and morality. What I found most striking about the novel was how the 'innocent' and 'pure' layers of Shelly and Elizabeth are steadily shed exposing the true evil that lies within them. Not surprisingly, after reading the novel I felt a lingering sense of unease about what the two condoned in the novels pages. Warning: Mice is a darkly sinister and disturbing novel yet despite this, I found it oddly fascinating. I therefore give Mice a well-deserved 4.7 out of 5- Its' worth your lost fingernails. Found it a bit unbelievable....that Mom wouldn't stand up for her daughter, that the school and police wouldn't do anything, that they would so easily kill two people and that their lives would just go on. Like another reviewer said, I just wanted to slap the mom. That all said, it would be a good book to talk about with all the moral ambiguities. What would you do if you were in their situation?
