"My Nest Isn't Empty, It Just Has More Closet Space" is a book of humorous essays, written mostly by Scottoline and occasionally by her daughter, the nest emptier. Her humor rotates between her love for her dogs (five of them,) her failed marriages (two of those), her relationship with her daughter, her dear "Mother Mary" and her own insecurities. Less laugh-aloud than Erma Bombeck, and more dead-pan like Ellen Degeneres, Scottoline writes humor that everyone (even this 1-man woman who hasn't ever really adored a dog) can relate to. There is no rancor, no satire, no mention of controversies, just good old-fashioned inter-generational banter. The audio CD was enjoyable, though Scottoline's talent lies more in writing than in delivering comedy. Still, if you have hours to while away, you could do much worse than listen to this book. This is a great book that Lisa Scottoline, who is very funny, has written basically about her daily life. She lives with her pets (dogs and cats) and talks about living with them, trials and joys of having pets, living with their hair, etc. She also has been married 2 times and calls her exes Thing One and Thing Two. She has a daughter that has not long ago moved out and she writes about living alone, and how it was living with her daughter and her daughter also has written a few chapters in the book. She also talks about her mother....otherwise known as Mother Mary. The book is quite funny and a very enjoyable read.
