Cute little story about a girl named Ally who has to move with her dad while her mom decides if she is ready to start seriously dating a guy that lives across the country. Ally meets Jonathan, her dad's next door neighbor, who is taking care of her dog while she is staying at her dad's. They start talking and realize that they like each other. They are only fourteen, so it really is just a simple relationship. Ally is unlucky, but she ends up happy and with the boy. "My Life as the Ugly Stepsister" was a lighthearted, hilarious and sweet look at first love. Juli Alexander obviously remembers what it's like to be fourteen — at least she knows how I felt at fourteen: convinced the whole world was out to get me. Many of heroine Ally's observations are spot-on, even when she's being overly dramatic.I expected Ally's stepsister, Caroline, to be a stereotypical bitch, but she was really sweet. That was a refreshing change.This book was thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining.
