About book My Jane Austen Summer: A Season In Mansfield Park (2011)

That’s it, I’m done. Half way through and I can’t figure this story out. Why is the almost priest writing in the attic? Why is Lily still hanging about with the literary festival people when there is no job for her? Why doesn’t Lilly just smack her roommate for taking and then losing the last thing her mother ever gave her? Perhaps my questions would have been answered had I finished the last 100+ pages but I just can’t be bothered. I feel like there is no plot to this story. It’s boring and the characters are annoying. Lilly, the main character, is ridiculously stupid for a grown woman who loves Jane Austen. She’s not particularly nice, clever, funny, or anything. Granted, I’m not particularly nice, clever, funny or anything either but I don’t expect anyone to wade through 185 pages of a novel about me. This books could have been great. A really fun concept, very similar to Austenland. Things got a little weird with her fake friend Jane Austen. She just kind of popped out of no where. The sex scenes were bizzare. I don't like graphic descriptions so that was a plus, but I had no idea what was going on. If anything! The second scene, I read over and over. I just couldn't figure out if the fellow was "making love" to her dress or what. No one was overly likeable in this story. Not sure how religious a deacon of the Anglican church should be, but I felt it wasn't so great to have him hopping into bed so easily and having affairs. The religion was a bit odd in the book also, as if it didn't fit there.
