This novella was suspenseful and well-crafted, making it a quick and delightful read. The plot of the novella was well-designed, and while at first you may think little of Mary's condition, the breadcrumbs are laid out for the reader from the start that there is more to her view of the world than what others see. The core characters are memorable and well-developed, although some side characters are left a little hollow or underdeveloped. Still, from the point of view of a teenage narrator, this is generally acceptable, and every character interaction remains thought-out rather than cliche. The pace of the book requires a special mention. The prologue of the novella is intense, but the story afterward takes a much slower pace before building into a crescendo of action, character development, and resolution. The end of the novella was particularly bittersweet, and will definitely leave you wanting more. This may possibly be my most spontaneous buy yet. I had opened my Kindle with the intent of reading a completely different book when the image of My Daylight Monsters appeared on the home screen of my e-reader. It's title and cover peaked my interest and I decided just checking it out wouldn't hurt. I read the synopsis, found out it was on sale and purchased it right there in my comfy bed and started reading right away. Later I would come to find out that I already have the first book in this series, I had originally thought it was just a stand alone short story but it was not and that's alright with me. This story was very interesting. It's about a young girl named Mary who after an accident sees figures what she believes are zombies. These "zombies" warn her that something terrible is going to happen in the near future. She's terrified and believes she may be having some psychotic break so she checks herself into a mental hospital. When she arrives she makes new friends and finds out that weird things have been happening in the hospice section of the hospital located directly across the hall from her facility. I won't spoil it for you but things get intense quickly! I found the story to be interesting enough but I also feel like key information was missing. Now that I know this is a novella for a series maybe the missing information can be found in another book? At the same time this suppose to be information about the beginning of Mary's story and I felt like there was a lot of missing pieces and holes. Either way I will be giving the next book a shot and I will let you know how it goes! ★★★ (2.75/5)
Do You like book My Daylight Monsters (2013)?
This book was a mix of Girl Interrupted and Gothika. I found it very predictable.
