A little disappointed that so little time was spent with any of the secondary characters. I was very excited at the start that this would be the Catherine book like the last was so focused on Maeve, but alas it was simply (hopefully) foreshadowing of what will come soon. The mystery itself was interesting, but as usual I felt I knew who was the culprit from early on. In this one though it was a feeling more than a certainty like it usually is. I wasn't sure how much I was going to enjoy listening to this mystery during the first disk. I decided to keep going onto the next CD and realized it was the narrator I had issue with rather than the story. I normally stop listening when I am not overly fond of the narrator, but this was the only BOCD in the car at the time....so kept listening. I am very glad that I did. Victoria Thompson writes a very well-done mystery set in 19th century America. I was intrigued with the excellent characters who play well off of each other and a fine mystery to keep the reader turning the pages (or listening for just one more track before getting out the car in my case). Sarah Brandt is asked to deliver a baby to a wealthy woman who has kept her pregnancy secret. There are definitely more secrets than this within the walls of this house. I look forward to reading more of the series, likely from the beginning, rather than listening to it. Definitely recommended.
I wanted to like it, but the same facts were repeated so often that it just felt like filler.
