About book Murder In The White House (2001)

I knew Ms. Truman was a mystery writer, but I never had any interest in reading her works until I visited the Truman’s Little White House in Key West and learned Ms. Truman was inspired by Agatha Christie. Had the two been publishing at the same time, Ms. Christie would not have had to worry about the competition. I guess this was okay as far as a political thriller goes, but I figured out who did it early on, like before page 50. Usually I like figuring things out early and experiencing how the author gets to the conclusion. However, I found myself pretty bored with this. Possibly because the characters weren’t very interesting. I’ll read more of Ms. Truman simply because was able top pick up four of her novels for $1 ea. Am hoping the reading experience will deepen.

The Secretary of State is murdered in the White House, and the President assigns Ron Fairbanks, Special Counsel to the President to head up the investigation. During his investigation, Ron finds out many secret things about the lives of not only the Secretary of State, but also about the President, the First Lady, and their daughter, Lynne, whom rumor has it, Ron will one day marry. Ron realizes that he has been placed in a difficult position and it may cost his his job if he digs too deeply, but he decides that he must find out the facts, no matter what it costs him. But in the end, even Ron is surprised to find out who the killer is.

Do You like book Murder In The White House (2001)?

I really enjoy reading series books, particularly in order. I had read some of the later novels by this author and decided to now go back and start with number 1. While reading it, I discovered that I had read it many years ago, but re-read it because I could not recall how it all pulled together. In addition, I like reading these Margaret Truman books since she has her roots in Missouri (my home state) being the daughter of Harry Truman. The book is good, perhaps somewhat dated, but that does not interfere with the plot line. I will plow ahead and slowly read them all.

I was forced to read this book in the summer before my senior year of high school for my political science class. I wasn't happy about having to read a typical CVS novel, but started reading anyway. Then all of a sudden, a little while in, I discovered that I couldn't put it down: I needed to know what happened to these characters. I needed to know who did it. I needed to know what happened. It was better than expected. Incredibly cheesy at times, but it left enough of an impression on me to remember it over two years later.
