This is one of my favourites in Amy Myers's series about Auguste Didier, the French chef who wants to be left in peace to get on with the cooking, but keeps getting involved in murders. In this installment, Auguste is persuaded to take a temporary job as chef at the Old King Cole music hall, in reality to try and prevent the star comedian Will Lamb from being murdered. The atmosphere of an Edwardian music hall is vividly recreated in this enjoyable story, and there are some very interesting characters, and when the inevitable murder does occur, Auguste's old friend Inspector Rose of Scotland yard is on hand to join with Auguste in solving the crime. Auguste and Rose make a memorable and unusual duo of detectives.
