About book Murder At The Breakers (2014)

I bought the book for its setting- Newport, R.I. among the rich and famous in the Gilded Age. I enjoyed our heroine, who is more intelligent than most in a "cozy", and who surprised me by her response to a would-be suitor at the end. Good characterizations, my only quarrel would be with the plotting, as I wished the author would show us more fancy parties and such, and have her heroine fuss and ponder over her list of suspects less. I thought it quite above the average in its genre. I thoroughly enjoyed this first offering in the Gilded Newport Mystery series starring Emma Cross. Emma, a cousin of "those" Vanderbilts, attends the coming out party of her cousin when a man falls from the top balcony to his death on the grass below. Unfortunately, Emma's brother Brady is found unconscious in the room where the dastardly deed originated from. The police think they have their man, leaving Emma to find the true killer. This series should be a lot of fun.
