About book Mud Season (2013)

The book was funny. It was straight talk from the author about her and her family’s transition to Vermont. The only reason I did not give 5 stars was due to the language in the book. Understanding that this is how Ellen choses to express herself, it was still a surprise. The open and bluntness of her take on the situation that she and her family have put themselves with the humor is incredible. Realizing that they have created their own adventure, ups downs, highs low, through it all Ellen is great in her story telling of their lives. If you object to foul language then you might get slightly offended. But if you can look past that and see the story that is being told it is great. The story is potentially a great one, but the writing style needed to be shepherded more strongly..........i.e., where were you editors? A NY transplant book sales freelancer buys an old Vermont farmhouse and then the country store. Self deprecating but a little goofy and arrogant, things don't work out for Ellen as she imagined. Valuable as a cautionary tale. I kept wondering......she's worried about money but keeps taking these very unwise risks. Her poor long suffering husband, altho perhaps he enjoys the adventure. The kids don't seem damaged either.I wanted to like this book more, but think it's worth checking out.
