About book Muchacho (2009)

Part of our school library...author of "Dangerous Minds"Famous teacher...The book was alright. It has a wonderful message, but a bit didactic for me. Will a middle school student even know what the power or intention, The Secret, and The Four Agreements are about? I like that the protagonist writes poetry.Pairs well with HMS. Read aloud Chapter 4, "Just Say No".or Read aloud "Googling God" Chapter 13 with Banned Book Week. Finally, it is rated a 5.9 and it is pretty easy. LouAnne Johnson author of the novel Muchacho, uses a ton of figurative language that portrays how the main character (Eddie) really is. Eddie, who is from new mexico throughout the book has many opportunity's for him to walk down the right path. Eddie has a passion for reading but is also a secret. He lives a tough life and him and his parents, teacher and also peers have a great influence on him. They guide Eddie into doing the right things and choose the right path. In the book, Lupe a girl from Bright Horizons meets Eddie and changes him around, until one day him and his friend drove his dad's car and wrecked it. His father became so angry that he sent Eddie to his uncle's house to live there for the rest of the school year. It was some sort of a wake up call of Eddie, not only did he improve himself, but because of Lupe encouraging Eddie to become a writer and make his own poem, he created the poem called "Viente Viente Vission". LouAnne Johnson not only used the characters such as Lupe, Primo and his father and mother as a guide, but his environment too. LouAnne Johnson symbolized Eddie's poem as the overall view of his life. Overall Great book, but lacks on detail when they wrecked Papi's car. 3 out of 5.
