About book Moxie And The Art Of Rule Breaking: A 14 Day Mystery (2013)
I found myself skimming this book but there were a couple of things I enjoyed. The art heist at the Isabella Gardner museum is a fascinating topic. I've read The Gardner Heist by Ulrich Boser, so I had some prior knowledge. The author ties in pop music, so I made a Boston playlist for my next trip. Also, the tie-ins with historic places was clever. I hope someday those lost pieces are recovered and that they are still in good shape. 13-year-old Moxie Fleece is smart, funny and determined to solve the (real-life) heist of famous artwork from Boston's Isabella Stuart Gardner Museum. This fast-paced mystery gives just enough tension to keep readers wondering if Moxie and her best friend, Ollie, are in over their heads since some very shady characters (including a gangster) are determined to stop Moxie and Ollie from discovering the whereabouts of the art or take the paintings and other famous art objects from them as soon as the just-graduated-from-eighth-graders find them.Moxie has numerous complications, including a beloved grandfather who was an accomplice to the heist and now has Alzheimers and a mother whose new boyfriend threatens to take Moxie away from her grandparents. Can Moxie and Ollie rescue the art while also keeping themselves and their families safe from the gangster?Dionne gives readers a likable protagonist with a wicked sense of humor, a strong boy-girl friendship, the great setting of Boston's landmarks, and a fast-paced book that may also get readers interested in art museums. And readers can look forward to a sequel!
