I still feel like this series is sort of thin, but this was a nice follow-up to Scout's Progress. It was kind of oddly paced -- the first three-quarters tells one story, and the last quarter jumps ahead five years and tells a different story, which felt odd to me. I didn't feel like either story needed to be longer, but it was still weird to put them in a book together. Still like the characters. The universe still feels thick and thought-out in some places and just sort of patched together in others. I don't know. If you liked the others in the series you'll probably like it. This book took me a while to get into. I just wasn't feeling it at first, and was having a hard time reading at a steady pace. Then I started to know the characters and the love between the main characters began to grow on me, even if at times it seemed a little too over the top. And then I reached the end and was slammed with the realization how much the characters meant to me and the emotional impact well written fictional characters can have. I am glad I finally reached the end of this amazing story and wish I hadn't been so easily distracted from the book as I had been at the start. Another excellent book in the Liaden universe.
Finally, the details of Aelliana and Daav and their unique shared consciousness. Great reading!

Another good Liaden book, and I thoroughly enjoyed it for what it was.
