About book Mother Warriors: A Nation Of Parents Healing Autism Against All Odds (2008)
Since I'm not doing summer school this year, I thought I'd spend my summer doing a little professional reading. Unfortunately, the library I'm at right now has a crappy selection. I don't have high hopes for this book, however, Jenny McCarthy gets a lot of press and I'm sure many of my kids' parents have read this - so it's worth a read. She certainly is no expert, but if I had a kid with autism, I would do everything in my power to "cure" him, just as she did. Can't knock her for that. Some of the treatments are expensive, though, and most people don't have "acting"/porn star money behind them to try to help their kids. We'll see...I'm embarrassed to admit that I agree with most of what she wrote... I cried and cried, while listening to the pain that these parents and children have endured. This book was a very insightful and full of raw emotion. I don't know how I feel about the vaccine/autism connection yet, but I do know that my son has extreme reactions to vaccinations and it takes him about two weeks for all of the side effects to go away. I have been told by his OT that Sky is probably on the Autism Spectrum but I haven't had any tests done to prove it, yet. If nothing else, this book has given me information and I will now do research so I can help my son the best way possible.
