I won't give a full-length review.I had high expectations with More Than Music because I love books that incorporate music with the story, but sadly, this book turned out mediocre. I liked the story. It was fine. It was okay but of course, as a reader, I don't want an 'okay' book. Good thing is, there were some heartstrings-tugging moments somewhere in between so that was nice. I just really didn't like how the conflict was resolved and how that resolution was executed because, for me, it was a bit cliched and too spontaneous. MORE THAN MUSIC has been on my must-read list ever since I heard Elizabeth Briggs' playlist for the book. I loooooved the songs she chose, and I am so, so glad I read the book. The music sets the perfect tone for Maddie and Jared's story. It's is edgy, soulful, and romantic. It's the kind of story that makes you nod your head, cringe at the tough parts, and fan yourself when it gets steamy (and ohhhh does it get steamy!).Both the behind-the-scenes take on a reality show music competition and Maddie's character development -- from sky and awkward music geek to that cool girl in a band you wish you knew -- kept me captivated from page one. I found Maddie relatable, and I loved her struggles -- with her self-confidence, her challenge to let go to help improve her music, and her desire to have a relationship with Jared, even when things get complicated.I haven't read much NA, and the steamy bits caught me a little by surprise. My husband, "Why are you blushing?" Haaaa. I usually read Middle Grade and YA ... :) I thought the entire story, steamy bits included, was well done. I'm eager to read more about Maddie's friends, and I look forward to whatever else Elizabeth Briggs writes!
