About book More Bears! (2010)

This book was introduced to me in a room full of adults that interacted throughout. I can only imagine the impact it has on children. The book is teaching the idea of perspective as the author narrates his own story .Almost every page has a word bubble which indicates to the children to yell more bears when they see it appear on the page. Children learn to stay engaged through the book as the don't want to miss the chance to yell along with the book. The characters are funny and have different personalities and use vocabulary that can be introduced to children. This story has so many bears in it that it a great story to use to act out as a class. While you read aloud have children take different parts and act out each bear with props or mask to enhance their character. Each child can add different personalities and things to their own bear that they portray. This will have the children up and moving and excited about reading books in the classroom. A great read-aloud for school visits. Use a stuffed animal bear to get the kids to yell out "More bears!" whenever you touch its head. Practice beforehand, and then move your hand over a chair to get them to yell out "More chairs!" and over a teacher's head to get them to yell out "More Mr Young!" or whatnot. At the end you can pull out a stuffed animal chicken and they'll all be able to participate in the last joke.
