My rating is low simply because this book was not entirely what I expected it to be. Maybe I'm rating it unfairly but I bought the book thinking it was a science fiction tale. The only science fiction in it was the fact that it took place on a spaceship. I would definitely classify the book as a romance and I should have looked further into it's premise prior to buying it. Romance is not my favourite and while I can handle a little romance in a science fiction story, this was more a little science fiction in a romance story. I so enjoyed this book, but then it combines my two favourite genres... scifi and romance. Yeah!I try not to include paranormal or psychic stuff in my scifi romance list as I like my scifi more 'scientific' like star trek. That's right, I'm a trekkie. Susan Grant's heroes are always Alpha's who almost seem beta in that they usually think before they act. Rather refreshing really. Think, Captain Picard rather than Captain Kirk. The heroines can take care of themselves. They are strong heroines whose actions follow through and help build the character. Rather than the author just saying the heroine is a strong woman and then having her run straight into danger without a plan. The pacing is a wee bit slow here and there. Perhaps a wee bit too much introspection on the part of the main characters, but they have a LOT of prejudices to overcome, so I was OK going with the flow. But I really appreciated how they both used their intelligence when faced with a problem and weren't afraid to rethink anything. Both of them had the minds of leaders.Flinn is super sexy with the tattoos and braided hair etc. Mmmm, Mmmm, Mm!I didn't realize this follows 'The Star Princess'. You don't need to read it in order, but it sure makes me want to go back and read the previous two books. I was kinda disappointed with the first book in the series and didn't continue. Now I plan to.
Do You like book Moonstruck (2008)?
As a romance, solid characters. As military science fiction, no. Just, no.
