I cannot point out enough how much I love this book. This is my second time reading it and it didn't lose any of its charme from the first time. Gaby is...there are no real words for Gaby other than that she's a lot like me in some respects and also completely crazy so I love her to bits and pieces. The whole story is like one of those flowers that look quite ordinary at first glance but when it unfolds, it turns out to be beautiful. I adore the side-story of Ethan, the way Nicci describes him in the car when Gaby drives him to college is absolutely amazing. And then he gets his own little space in the book which is a little seperate from the other big story and it's quite nice to take a short break from the drama and wander over into Ethan's world every few chapters. As for the main story, I could quote half the book, honestly. But I won't and you'll have to just read it to find all those magic little moments.
It wasn't the story I expected. So I don't know if that's the reason I found it slow or a little disjointed to begin with. Nevertheless.....Two girls make a promise that they will be best friends even when they are 90. Something happens and suddenly, one of them just disappears. The other is left wondering for years what happened and why did her friend leave and does her friend continue not to make contact. Suddenly, a random sighting on the news, leads the left behind to search out her friend and totally unprepared for the consequences of her actions.
