About book Miss Fortune Cookie (2012)

A book that seems to begin as a promising and refreshing realistic YA very quickly falls apart into an incredibly ridiculous 'Adventures In Babysitting' style caper. Which could have been fine--the problem is that the book tries to do too much. It doesn't set the appropriate tone for the implausibility of the events, instead trying to touch on every social issue from racism, sexism, homelessness and veganism to academic pressure, marriage, and single motherhood. It felt like one of the worst episodes of Glee. Harmless enough, but not likely to stick with you in the end. So fun! This should be and probably will be a great movie - similar to Nick and Nora's Playlist.I loved the setting in Chinatown in San Francisco. It's about three girlfriends- 2 chinese and 1 white girl, the narrator, who was born in China and speaks mandarin. The girlfriend troubles were so realistic and the dialogue very interesting. The nerdy aspects of the narrator also added a fun touch. Sex talk but no real action.

Do You like book Miss Fortune Cookie (2012)?

A good YA book. I enjoyed the story and wasn't turned off by too much drama; it was a nice read.
