About book Minimalism: Live A Meaningful Life (2011)

Conceptually, this is an understandable novel. But taken down to the quality of writing- much of the chapters were filled with repetitive statements and paragraphs. Certain parts were rather contradictory, such as suggesting to get rid of one's Internet, then promptly recommending their website. Throughout, they continually mention how one should visit their archives of blogging. Perhaps this is simply a presumption on my part, but I would rather they write out a particular blog session they were referring to, or state at the intro that they intend the book to be interactive with their website. They also had a tendency to utilize strong, definitive word choices in areas that it generally was not necessary in. I've read quite a few books on minimalism, but I'm always looking for more. This book was good in that it talked about how we can try so hard to achieve the American dream only to find that it doesn't satisfy us at all. Spending all of our time working to reach some standard of living that competes with those around us just removes us from the things that really matter most. These guys are good examples of this, because they had it all at a young age and thought they had life figured out. But, when none of it made them happy, they reevaluated and changed their lives. I especially enjoyed how they ranked the priorities in their life and showed how each of them worked at them differently. I would have given it more stars because it was a good book, but it just felt like something was missing.
