About book Minha Cozinha Em Berlim: Uma História De Amor, Com Receitas (2013)
I enjoyed myself for the first several chapters of the book (especially the ones about her unusual childhood), but then I just got bored. Like so many bloggers turned book writers, her writing is so self absorbed that it wears thin after a short time. If Weiss was a friend or someone I knew and cared about, I'd be more interested in her back and forth and agonizing over her life's decisions, but because she's not, I just didn't care enough to stay engaged or feel anything.Hands down, the best part of this book are the recipe(s) she includes at the end of each chapter. Some I will never attempt, but there are several that I want to try.I think anyone who has an affinity for Berlin will enjoy this book more than I did. The Wednesday Chef has long been one of my favourite food blogs, so I very much enjoyed learning more about the author and getting a 'behind the scenes' look at her life. She eloquently writes about her romantic ups and downs and her struggle to find her place in the world -- themes most of us can relate to.* And if you can't, then there are the recipes and her descriptions of meals, which are magnificent. So many that I want to try *right now*. She also does a lovely job summoning up mental pictures of the cities and places she loves, from NYC to Berlin to Italy to Paris.*Having also moved countries in pursuit of love, I found it particularly fun to read her take on the mental dance done by those of us who think of themselves as 'sensible' and 'responsible' while doing something nutty - "This is crazy! How can I be doing this? Oh my god, have I lost my sanity" vs. "This is exactly where I need to be! Everything feels right! I go with my gut!"
