About book Midnight Secretary, Volume 1 (2010)

Now even though I glanced at the blurb I didn't not know one of the characters was a vampire. (How dense can you be Dee?) But let's say I was pleasantly surprised. I'm a sucker for vampire stories. (Fangbanger?) I think what I liked most about this is that the guy has started to crave her blood and hers only! Yay! But I don't like that he's a jerk. I used to love the jerky heroes but as I age I have less patience for them. It doesn't stop me from reading but it annoys me like you wouldn't believe. Definitely going to continue with this series. Adorably cute. The premise of the story sounded ridiculous and funny so I just had to pick it up. It is a typical 'falls for a bad boy vampire' storyline but I found its simplistic nature endearing. The characters felt comfortable in their roles which made them much more believable instead of overly exaggerated. The main character is Kaya Satozuka who has just started working as a secretary to an arrogantly rude boss, Kyohei Tohma. He initially dismisses her presence as plain and unnoteworthy, at least until their relationship develops later on. Sounds typical. What catches interest is Kaya herself. The appeal of her isn't just in looks. The story does focus a lot on her appearance and how she sees herself as a woman in the workplace. She has trouble adjusting on a personal level in her new work environment but still does an amazing job, even despite a domineering boss. Her personality is sweet and hard working; a perfect heroine in my opinion. There isn't much in the way of plot so far, but some things are set up that I can tell will be interesting later. I can hardly wait to read more of their relationship with added plot development. It was a fine first volume. Plus, points for making me giggle.

Do You like book Midnight Secretary, Volume 1 (2010)?

It's been a few years since I've picked up a Manga/Graphic Novel, I'd forgotten it was a different experience than just reading printed words (not less enjoyable but different). Midnight Secretary (Volume 1) was an interesting start to a series, but nothing particularly stand out. Kaya Satozuka is the most likable thing in the story so far, I say this mostly because I'm not convinced I particularly like Kyohei and the lack of real plot (yet). As a story it's not particularly strong plot-wise or even character wise (yet). It's fluffy and predictable (but likable anyway). I did enjoy the artwork and the gorgeous cover which were pluses. 3.5 stars.

Plot is kinda thin. Passing fun, but nothing to get me seriously attached.
