About book Midnight Scandals (2012)

Three stores set in the same place, each about 40 years apart. I'm not familiar with Carolyn Jewel, but have enjoyed other books by Thomas and Milan. I liked how the stories were interconnected, though that worked far better with the first and second than with the second and third (I feel like Milan set up a hook that Thomas ignored). The first two stories were very thematically similar: Woman trapped in an untenable situation in a small country house, her obvious marry her way out escape is blocked by a dark secret from her past. This worked rather better when Milan did it, as many things do, but the Jewel story was okay. The person (unintentionally) driving our heroine out of her home was more or less a female Mr. Collins from P&P, which was an entertaining read. The sex was a little to possessive male dom than I like. The Milan story had a dark secret that worked rather better, plus her usual commentary on the cost of idealised womanhood and status. I always get a real sense of her characters even in short works, whereas the ones in the Jewel story were a bit flat. The third story didn't really connect to the others. It was part of one of the author's series, and didn't stand alone as well, plus it was more a comedy of errors pertaining to to gentlemen who looked more or less the same. It was sweet, and sometimes funny, but you had to get past the unrelated twins concept, which held it down, and most of the action didn't take place in the setting that tied the series together. It did have the hottest sex of the three though. Thomas is pretty reliable in that regard. All in all, would rec the Milan story, and the other two I could take or leave. One Starlit Night by Carolyn Jewel2-3 stars. I spent much of the time enraged, so I can't rate this higher Eleanor is a fucking manipulative bitch. Someone should wallop her to shut her the fuck up. Who lets a vapid bitch manipulate them like that?! She made me so pissed!!What Happened at Midnight by Courtney Milan4 starsA Dance in Moonlight by Sherry Thomas5 stars

Do You like book Midnight Scandals (2012)?

Didn't really capture my attention. The only reason I finished it was to see how the stories ended.

Purchased mainly for Jewel's tale and ended up enraptured by all three stories.
