About book Measure Of Devotion (2012)

This book took on am interesting case between a master and his slave. Not the kind of slave one would think in today's world with Fifty shades setting a new meaning to the word slave to the world as a whole; but, a slave in the old sense of the word. Someone who is owned by another. Kale is a slave that does everything he possibly can to keep his young master happy. While Jason takes the title master too far for a bit, Kale takes what is dished out to him even though it's a bit on the extreme side. When things begin to change for the better, it is understandable that Kale be hesitant to wonder when the other shoe will drop. While I don't agree with everything in this book, it was a decent read and I enjoyed picking it up. It's a book I would recommend to anyone who can look past the abuse of Kale. To read this book, one must remember how times were when people were slaves. IMO, it's not bad, but it's not that good either. The writing is good and the story is very bittersweet indeed. I actually like the story (if not too centered to the MCs). There’s so much drama with its ups and downs that made my heart break.I do love the bittersweet romance between Jason & Kale. It was sweet, giddy, heart-warming, but also painful and hopeless. I loved Kale, really. He was very genuine and likable. I loved how he appreciated simplicity in his life. And despite Jason’s violent behavior in the past, he wished nothing but his master’s happiness and he would do anything to get Jason’s mood back. He was just this type of guy that I always wanted to hug!In contrast, I didn't really favor Jason. Yes, he was very loving and nice after the break up (and I love him for that). But for me, the transition is too abrupt (hey, it rhymes!). I know how guilt can drive someone’s feeling 180 degree. But still, it felt strange and awkward to have it change all of a sudden. I wish that Jason changed from the childish, posh-wannabe master to the matured, caring guy in a longer pace.Oh, and have I told you that the cliff hanger was killing me? Well, it was very devastating to know that the book ended that way. This book was the first in the series. I am very KEPO as to what will happen next. But I don’t really know whether I would want to read it or not because book #1 falls between the line of ‘okay’ and ‘I liked it’ with me.But since I’m an angst-lover, I guess I ended up liking it anyway. So overall, 3 stars for ‘I liked it'. Recommended for those who love angst and/or hurt/comfort.
